Herbs/Flowers:

 

  • Calendula: Soothes skin irritation and redness and supports wound healing.  Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant. May improve skin conditions like eczema and diaper rash.

  • Lavender: Calming and soothing properties, can reduce skin irritation, anxiety, and depression.  Improves sleep quality, helps with acne, eczema, and wound healing and promotes overall skin health. Antibacterial and antifungal.

  • Rose: Rich in antioxidants which help with anti-aging and improving skin health.  Provides hydration, soothes irritation and reduces redness.
     

Oils:

 

  • Apricot kernel: Moisturizing properties due to high content of essential fatty acids and vitamins A & E.  Improves skin texture and combats signs of aging.

  • Castor: Reduces the appearance of wrinkles thanks to its rich fatty acid content.  Helps to moisturize the skin, reduce inflammation, and fight acne due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.  

  • Coconut: Strengthens the skin’s barrier and promotes wound healing.  Reduces inflammation, antibacterial, and antifungal making it beneficial for conditions like eczema and acne.

  • Coffee: Provides deep hydration.  Firming and tightening effects, reduces dark circles and puffiness.  Its rich antioxidant content helps combat signs of aging and promotes a radiant complexion.

  • Geranium: Acts as an astringent, which can tighten skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Stress-relieving, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, soothes irritation, promotes healing and strengthens the immune system.

  • Jojoba: Acts as a moisturizer and helps control oil production.  Antibacterial, antioxidant, soothes dry skin, improves skin elasticity, and reduces acne making it suitable for various skin types.

  • Lavender: Relieves headaches and muscle pain, improves mood, antibacterial and antifungal.  Reduces inflammation, fights acne, and soothes eczema. Contains antioxidants that may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve overall skin tone.

  • Olive: Used for skin care since ancient times by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for various skin treatments and beauty rituals, highlighting its long-standing significance in skincare.  Hydrates dry areas and heals.  Contains antioxidants that may reduce signs of aging and improve skin health.  May not be suitable for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

  • Rose: Acts as a natural moisturizer and therefore is often used in skincare for its hydrating and anti-inflammatory effects. Antibacterial, soothes irritation, and can combat acne.  The smell reduces anxiety, promotes relaxation, and enhances mood.

  • Vitamin E: Is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.  Can improve skin hydration and elasticity.  Also known to reduce the appearance of scars and fine lines, and promotes healing.

 

Butters:

 

  • Cacao: Known for its excellent moisturizing properties, helping to hydrate and nourish the skin.  Rich in antioxidants that may protect against sun damage and improve skin elasticity, making it beneficial for skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema.

  • Shea: Highly beneficial for skin as it moisturizes, soothes irritation, and helps reduce inflammation.  Contains vitamins A and E that promote skin health and aids in healing.  Can prevent cell damage and provide sun protection.
     

Other ingredients:

 

  • Beeswax: Hydrates and seals in moisture.  Known for its antibacterial properties, making it effective in wound healing and preventing infections.  Protects against UV rays and environmental influences.  Suitable for all skin types.

  • Castile soap: Gentle and moisturizing, great for sensitive skin.  Helps cleanse without stripping natural oils and its plant-based ingredients can provide hydration and nourishment.

  • Coffee: Provides natural exfoliation, reduces puffiness, and may also help with cellulite reduction and offer some protection against UV damage.  Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

  • Himalayan salt: Acts as a natural exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and improve circulation.  May also help in treating skin conditions like acne and psoriasis due to its mineral content and antimicrobial properties.

  • Tallow: From cattle (not vegan), used in skin care since ancient times with records indicating its use as far back as 3000 BC.  This moisturizer mimics our natural skin oils and is rich in minerals and vitamins A, D, E, and K, and has the highest source of essential fatty acid.  Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.

  • Vanilla extract: Promotes a healthy glow and is gentle enough for all skin types, including sensitive skin.  Soothes and calms irritation, reduces signs of aging. Antibacterial and antioxidant. 

  • Vanilla pod: Promotes a brighter complexion and improves skin hydration.  Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial. Improves relaxation and sleep quality and is a mood enhancer providing comfort and warmth.
